Subject: School video?
Subject: School video?
I was surprised at the end when the co-host (Herb Lechner) started telling me to read the next chapter of my text before the next lesson. Was this show
...
intended as an educational video for schools? I'm guessing they didn't do that for long, this is the first episode I've seen with that kind of commentary in it.
Most people have probably used text-to-speech software like this before, but it's sort of interesting to seee it discussed here as a new technology. The solo Herb Lechner segments break down into a dull lecture, but the product demos are better.
One of the products demoed is a full size 8-bit card for the IBM PC which performs text-to-speech in hardware. The card has an onboard CPU along with the sound components and various other chips. It's clearly an expensive, self-contained card designed not to bog down the host system.
